Bluebonnet Pet Crematory has been active in many community ventures. Through the Henry H. and Gloria E. McKee Family Trust (administered by the San Antonio Area Foundation), numerous grants have been donated to San Antonio and surrounding area organizations, in addition to state and national organizations. Numerous hours have been spent baking, sampling and selling goodies at shelter bake sales. Plants have been grown for sale and pet Christmas stockings have been sewn and stuffed for fundraisers. Building materials, carpeting, and cleaning supplies have been purchased and delivered to several “no-kill” area shelters. Canned and dry cat/dog food, deer corn and fresh fruit have been supplied to organizations in our area. Companion animals have been fostered and adopted by our staff members. Perhaps you saw us spotlighted on your local TV station? In 2003, a pit bull fighting ring was found and 68 dogs were confiscated and housed at the Schertz Animal Control facility. Later, a judge ordered the dogs to be euthanized as they were deemed too aggressive to be adopted. Again, in January of 2004, close to 100 pit bulls were awaiting the same fate by another judge. Bluebonnet decided the most humane thing that could be done for these abused dogs was to offer them a more caring and dignified end to their cruel and harsh lives. They were cremated free of charge here at Bluebonnet and their ashes were spread over our landscaped yard. Free cremation services are offered to Police/Military K-9 service and tracking dogs. This service is also offered to certified service dogs for the handicapped. Please call for information. |
